Other Info

I am an experienced and accomplished performer, who has a good vocal range, a sense of humour and the confidence required to entertain audiences. I possess a well-tuned musical ear and a genuine personality on stage. I am happy doing a straight “lounge singer” performance (a la Sinatra), but am equally capable of "histrionic” Johnnie Ray–style theatricality, and have become quite emotive during a performance on occasions. I like to truly perform a number, and not just sing the lyrics on the bandstand.

A brief history of my musical experience to date:-

1982  blues band at university “See See Rider” covering 1960s pop songs mainly; Beatles, Rolling Stones, Hollies and numerous other “beat” groups of the era.

1984  singing solo in the small clubs and pubs in the Wolverhampton/ West Midlands area.

1987  joined the Steve King Big Band  regularly singing live at dances and concerts + attending jazz events, including the Upton  and Ludlow Jazz Festivals.  The vocal pads consisted mainly of Sinatra, Tony Bennett and ‘40s swing numbers.

1994  collaborated with a Birmingham Conservatoire classical guitar graduate... writing, producing and recording original material. Undertook session-work with several aspiring bands in the Midlands and Gloucestershire.

1996-2001 pop/rock band “Chrome”.  Covered pop standards from the 1950s-1970s - ranging from Elvis and Roy Orbison, to Chris Isaak and David Bowie. The band’s main employment came from weddings and pub/small club gigs.

2003 onwards, lead male vocal on occasion with  Steve King’s Big Band in a second re-incarnation, along with The Fabulous Forties Swing Orchestra - an 18 piece which performed all over the country in theatres,  large private functions, hangar dances and outdoor concerts.

2006-2007+ Simon and Garfunkel tribute, just for fun, to keep the voice in shape in-between jazz concerts.

2007  joined The Pasadena Roof Orchestra to deputise for the lead male vocalist at a welsh golf-club centenary. The performance resulted in being offered a permanent deputy position for the principal lead vocalist.

2008+  The reincarnation of the old pop/rock band “Chrome”

The Solo Singing Career is continuing, performing with high quality Minidisc Tracks under the stage name  “ Andy Jeff “. There are essentially three shows: a Jazz set, a Pop set, and a mixture of the two styles -  combined with easy listening ballads. Andy is available for private parties, weddings and has experience of small clubs, medium venues, the theatre and large outdoor events.

Sample Sets

It’s more than 25 years since I first sang lead vocals, and now feel I possess the relaxed style and maturity, to add to much and varied experience. Jazz and swing has always been my first love; I am totally familiar with the songbook of Sinatra, Tony Bennett - along with vocal parts performed by the Glenn Miller singers: ( Ray Eberle/ Tex Beneke /Johnny Desmond/ Modernaires etc.) - should that be required in your set.

Finally, I can perform in the ‘30s dance band style; do a fair impression of Al Bowlly and Sam Browne (best known for their work with Lew Stone/Ray Noble), and am familiar with war-time songs covered by such acts as The Ink Spots (I can manage the falsetto on a good day !), and The Mills Brothers.

I would enjoy the opportunity to perform with you, and would be pleased to send my demo CD and photographs if you wish. You may have someone who covers your male vocals presently, in which case I would be happy to audition for a deputy or understudy position.
